BMAF Chair


The British Masters Athletic Federation (BMAF) overseas athletics and running in the UK for athletes at or over the age of 35. It is going through a period of exciting change and plans to incorporate in the next year.

Role Overview

The Chairperson provides leadership of the BMAF functions by overseeing the work of its discipline and functional leads, and through good governance.

Anticipated Time Commitment:

2-3 hours per week

Role Description: (this is indicative only)

The role will get involved in the followed activities:

  • Chairing BMAF Executive and other internal meetings.
  • To define and steer the BMAF strategy and direction through a period of change
  • Meeting with key stakeholders to ensure essential collaboration and communications to drive the BMAF vision and strategy to implementation
  • Provide general leadership by acting as an ambassador and figure head for BMAF.
  • Holding others to account for delivering their responsibilities within the BMAF.


  • Significant leadership experience – someone people will respect and follow with an ability to inspire those around them in the vision and direction of the BMAF
  • Significant management experience across a range of areas, roles or organisations, managing a diverse range of people, processes and policies etc.
  • An excellent communicator who can represent the BMAF internally and externally with ease.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion of all.
  • Be able to provide support and challenge in equal measure.
  • Forward-thinking with a vision to steer the change and strategic direction required for a body facing significant change and modernisation over the coming months and years.
  • Experience of leading change and improvement projects is desirable.
  • A passion or interest in sport (desirably in athletics although not essential).
  • Experience in the sports sector is also desired, but not essential

Anyone wishing to stand for any of these positions must obtain a nomination from either the Council (representatives from the 11 Constituent Associations and Clubs), the Executive, or the Committee of any Constituent Association or Club. Anyone seeking a nomination from the Council should contact its Chairman or anyone seeking a nomination from the Executive should contact its Honorary Secretary Bridget Cushen Each request for nomination should be submitted in time for consideration by one of the above mentioned bodies and the names of any nominees then submitted to the Honorary Secretary no later than 28th October.
