The preparation for the upcoming WMA championships in Tampere, Finland is ongoing since the first site visit to prepare the championships taking place from 29th June to the 10th July 2022. Due to the Covid situation, the signature of the contract had to be postponed. The WMA representatives now were able to meet in Tampere during the Finnish Athletics Championships. Juha Yli-Rajala, representing the City of Tampere, and Harri Aalto, representing Finnish Athletics signed the contract with WMA President Margit Jungmann, Vice President Brian Keaveney and Treasurer Jean Thomas in presence of Antti Pihlakoski (World Athletics Council), Perttu Pesä (Tampere Director Major Events) and Alan Bell (WMA Competition Director).
The LOC is looking forward to host the master athletes next year in Tampere. They are convinced that even if Covid is still present in the world they will be able to welcome athletes to the heart of the city in a secure setting. WMA hopes that athletes from all over the world will be allowed to travel and come back to the international master competition.
The WMA representatives also had intense meetings with the LOC and inspected the venues to ensure perfect championships. More information on this will be published soon.
